Indie Dev Journal - week ending October 4th 2026
Radio silence for a bit which was a lapse on my part. Things have been busy and lots going on. I've been working on new app ideas along with improving my existing apps.
iPhone Duo workshop
I had the privilege to travel up to Sydney recently to attend the iPhone Duo workshop run by Apple. Having hands on with the device was an amazing opportunity. It is an amazing device that changes the way apps respond and behave. Migrating existing apps to support the device takes a lot and is work well spent. It improves the overall behaviour of your apps not only on iPhones but also on iPad, macOS and visionOS. I highly recommend attending if you can as testing on a real device is so different from the simulator.
Ride Journal 2026.10 upcoming
The first of the apps I'm focusing on to support the iPhone Duo is Ride Journal and a release is imminent. I'm working through the final details of the release right now and generating the marketing content for it. With any luck the release will go out sometime in the coming weeks.
Speaking and writing
Melbourne Cocoaheads will be celebrating it's 200th talk night this coming week and I have the privilege to give a talk on the Evaluations framework and how it can be applied to chat functionality in apps.
Melbourne Cocoaheads has been a cornerstone of my career as a developer for apple's platforms and where I have learnt so much from the amazing people in attendance. I have also had the honour of sharing a lot of what I've learnt over the years with people. I highly recommend getting involved in your local tech community where you can.
While working on the talk, I've been preparing a blog post on the content to share with you all.
Contract work
I'm still on my lookout for my next bit of contract work, so feel free to get in touch. I would love to build some amazing apps for others and help out teams to achieve their goals.
The week ahead
Lots of marketing work this coming week. Things have been focusing on the code and I need to take some time to switch to doing marketing for a bit.
